What are the new capabilities of 640 Slice Ct Scanners?

Technology has no end in every single field, medical imaging is one of the areas that has biggest space for development. Over the past decade, computed tomography manufacturers have adopted different approaches to improving scanner performance. Many of these developments have focused on heart CT scans, but the increased use of CT scans has also had other uses, such as CT lung screening for smokers.

in 2012, Toshiba medical has announced the release of its 640-slice CT scanner (Aquilion one vision edition), it’s the first CT scanner manufacturer who provides this technology, Toshiba medical systems has been acquired by Canon in 2016 and it changed the name of Toshiba medical systems into Canon medical systems. Although this device is 7 years old, but it’s still not widely used in the world generally and in the middle east and Africa specifically due to its high cost that might be ranging from 2.5 m to 3 m USD. It is present in few hospitals in the region which includes Egypt, KSA, UAE and South Africa.

The 640-slice CT scanner is the most powerful imaging device that has the capability of diagnosing cardiovascular problems, it also has the ability of giving the best imaging experience and non-invasive assessment for multiple specialties like Oncology, Neurology, Pediatrics and gastroenterology

The 640-slice CT scanner enables improved diagnosis and can scan up to 1,000 times more images per second than any other CT scanner on the market. It also offers much higher image quality than previous CT scanners, which has been improved by improvements in hardware and software. The 640 Slice CT Scanner has a higher spatial resolution and thus produces an improved image quality. It can also be used in patients who have had or need a heart bypass operation. It is easier to interpret and therefore particularly suitable for cardiologists and heart patients whose previous scans were not clear-cut.

This new scanner allows us to evaluate the coronary arteries while delivering a lower dose of radiation to enhance patient safety, the scanner has the ability to offer multiple dose-reduction technologies, including the use of high-resolution imaging and improved diagnostics, as well as a wide range of advanced imaging techniques. This makes it an ideal choice for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and makes the 640-slice CT scanner the most accurate CT scanner available for this type of patient.

Cardiologists say they have found a lot of confidence in the ability to manage their patients. One of the biggest concerns for orthopedic patients imaging with the 640x Slice CT scanner is lying on the scanner table, which can be a comfort issue for some patients. During the scan you do not have to worry, you can talk through the scanners and the X-ray machine will be able to hear you.

When evaluating a CT scanner, it should be questioned how much anatomy is imaged at once. The area coverage of the detector is primarily related to the image, and therefore the optimal setting for scanning the scanner is made to cover the heart volume. Also, care should be taken to compare images of patients with similar characteristics.

A 640-disc CT provides a summary of patients with pacemaker implants, and we report on previous studies with retrospective ECG-gated. This new scanner allows cardiologists to evaluate the coronary arteries while delivering a lower dose of radiation to enhance patient safety

The 640x CT scanner provides superior diagnostic performance and enables doctors to make reliable diagnoses in a short time. Over the past decade, computed tomography manufacturers have adopted different approaches to improving scanner performance. Many of these developments have focused on heart CT scans, but the increased use of CT scans has also had other uses, such as CT lung screening for smokers.

Aquilion one vision edition is designed to meet your needs now and in the future, with upgrade capabilities that allow unique volumetric and ultra-helical scanning modes, advanced and clinically useful iterative reconstruction to lower radiation dose faster reconstruction speed to optimize workflow and improved diagnostic image quality to enhance diagnoses.

The fastest ever

The Aquilion One (vision edition) provides the fastest gantry rotation of 275 milliseconds so it can has a complete rotation in less than one third of a second, also it has 320 detector rows which has the ability to capture 640 unique slices of the thinnest slices available which is 0.5 millimeter, that means it can cover up to 16 cm in a single rotation, so it’s able to capture the whole volume of the heart from just one rotation. The vision edition of aquilion is able to capture the temporal resolution for a single heart beat of less than 65 BPM in just 137 ms. Which makes the system more convenient and efficient in the imaging of a wider variety of heart rates. . It can scan the whole body in seconds and provide an incredibly sharp 3D image of each organ.

Largest bore diameter

Aquilion one vision edition can accommodate overweight patients with its 78 cm diameter bore, it can accommodate up to 315 KG so it’s feasible for a wide range of individuals including bariatric. Tech Assist Lateral Slide enables Aquilion lateral couch movement of 8.4 cm from side to side.

Stroke management

with neuro one protocol 16 cm coverage per rotation dynamically allows whole brain for DSA, plus whole brain perfusion studies in 60 seconds. The fastest computed tomography (CT) platform provides physicians with a new and advanced tool to detect and diagnose heart disease.

Pediatric

volumetric imaging is ideal for pediatrics with the use of a single gantry rotation. It’s possible to cover the desired anatomy faster with low dose due to AIDR 3D and in high resolution, reducing the need for sedation in many cases.

Benefits at a glance

  • Supports overweight and obese patients
  • Reduced scanning time
  • Lower radiation dose
  • Perfect for cardiovascular imaging and angiography
  • High quality of image with reduced noise
  • Non-invasive diagnosis of heart diseases
